Lotus I

These lotus grow in Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz, California. They are so impressive as they rise out of the water four to five feet tall and sunlight passes through their leaves. I wanted to capture the different greens of the leaves: middle green direct light on the leaves, chartreuse green transmitted light through the leaves and the wonderful turquoise blue reflected light from the sky. I have painted two more lotus paintings and plan to do a series.
